The annual Absolute Return Symposium will take place on Thursday, March 8, 2018 in New York City. It will be followed that evening by the Absolute Return Awards.
Hedge funds will undoubtedly face a number of headwinds and tailwinds in the year ahead. Market volatility is expected to pick up following historic lows last year, the unwinding of expansive monetary policy undertaken by the Federal Reserve will continue and many are bracing for the stock market to pull back following the multiple milestones hit by the S&P 500 in 2017.
With rising rates and a potential pullback in the stock prices , there exist both great risks and the potential for great rewards. The risk on/risk off paradigm may give way to markets better suited to hedge fund strategies. Knowing how to pick winning strategies and avoid predictable risks will be one focus of the Symposium with panels discussing opportunities and challenges in Equities, Macro and Quantitative investment strategies among others.
A selection of top investors will also take to the stage to discuss their approach in investing in hedge funds and how to make the most of one’s hedge fund portfolio in today’s market.
As per last year, this year’s all-day Symposium will be followed in the evening by our annual awards dinner, during which we will honor the Americas hedge funds with the best risk-adjusted performance in 2017. The Symposium will also continue to make a particular effort to enlist the participation of the awards nominees, including the Management Firms of the Year, to solicit their views and highlight their roles as natural leaders of the industry.
Planning for the Symposium is now in full swing. If you would like to suggest topics or speakers, or are interested in participating yourself, please let us know.
The Symposium has typically attracted more than 400 attendees, and will once again bring together leading and influential hedge fund managers, investors and allocators. Past speakers have included such luminaries as Bill Ackman, Cliff Asness, Kyle Bass, John Burbank, Elaine Crocker, Jamie Dinan, Izzy Englander, Mitch Julis, Marc Lasry, Dan Loeb, Eric Mindich, John Paulson, Andy Redleaf, Dinaker Singh, David Shaw, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Peter Thiel and Boaz Weinstein, among many others.
Confirmed speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
