EuroHedge Awards 2019 – initial nominations announced

Industry will gather for biggest night of the year on 13 February 2020

EuroHedge reveals today the initial nominations for its annual awards, which will honour the outstanding performers of 2019 – a year in which European hedge funds returned to form after a difficult 2018.

The winners of the nineteenth annual EuroHedge Awards will be announced and presented at a gala dinner on Thursday 13 February 2020, in the spectacular setting of the Great Room at the Grosvenor House hotel on London’s Park Lane.

Europe’s hedge funds have delivered strong returns across almost all strategies in 2019, marking a recovery after last year ended with the industry’s worst final quarter on record.

Strong equity and bond markets have helped, while many managers have excelled despite the backdrop of continued geopolitical and economic turbulence, whether sparked by the latest Trump tweet, trade war development or Brexit setback.

The awards will be judged on a long-established quantitative methodology – based on a combination of Sharpe ratios and returns – to identify the best risk-adjusted performance across a range of strategies and asset classes (the methodology is explained here).

The EuroHedge Awards let the numbers do the talking and reward funds which are able to capture the upside in terms of strong absolute returns, while also controlling volatility and protecting capital on the downside.

The following list of initial nominees is based on returns to the end of October, with a further two announcements in December and January to finalise shortlists. The list below is provisional and further funds may be shortlisted subsequently.

The initial nominee lists once again feature several previous award winners – and a number of funds and firms that have won multiple nominations at the EuroHedge Awards over the years.

But there are also many newer names in the industry that also feature among the early contenders – and this is before we announce our initial nominees for the New Fund of the Year and Emerging Manager & Smaller Fund awards, which will be unveiled next month.

The night will culminate with the two most prestigious awards, Management Firm and Fund of the Year, which have been won by the industry’s leading names over the years. The Management Firm shortlist will be released next month while Fund of the Year nominees will be announced on the night.
